Thing 5 - Teacher Website - An exercise in futility

There are many a times that I feel the teacher website is an exercise in futility. It takes me a good 20 minutes a week to keep up on it, and I have little idea if ANYONE checks it! Sometimes I feel like there are a few kids (maybe 3-8 in each period) who check the website regularly; the rest don't even bother to check it EVER.

I like the idea of having a calendar on my website with all of my assignments and lesson plans. I think next year (or maybe 2nd semester if I can work up the courage) I will get rid of the old lesson planning book and do it all online. I think if I made this move, it would feel like less of something just tacked on top of an already busy day.

I have put a link to my website on the main page of this blog if you want to check it out. I like the general format of my webpage and how it has evolved over the last few years. For those who are new to the teacher webpage, my biggest hint is keep it simple (something I am still working on.) Also, try to make it your own with quirky things about you or pictures of classroom activities.

I have been trying to fire up my web page each day in class and just leave it on the lcd as a calendar. Maybe that forces the students to check it out. :)

You might want to add Google Analytics (http://www.google.com/analytics/) so that you can track actual usage -- maybe kids are using it more than you think :)
