Reading by the Pool!!

OK...so I did not reach my goal to go to the public library over break! OOoops! I have been very busy in Phoenix with family reading at the pool. Although I came up short, I feel like I am refreshed and ready to conquer information literacy upon my return to Minnesota. For now, a few book recommendations:

The Sledding Hill by Chris Crutcher - the one and only book I read here that took me less than a day and it is young adult lit!! Good for reluctant readers!

Into the Wild by Kraukaur - You will either love it or hate it and I think it is all dependant on your love or hate for the main character (Chris McCandless.) I appreciate his journey and had a hard time putting this book down!

Eat, Pray, Love by Liz Gilbert - I know...girly book...but I had to figure out what all of the fuss was about. I actually thought this book was great! I love her style and voice. I found pieces in this book that I could really connect to. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who is the least bit spiritual, but battles religion, or someone looking for an uplifting story.

Okay...that is all I have for now! See you all soon!

How did Into the Wild compare to the movie?

It must be so nice to be reading by the pool. I envy your chance to recharge for the coming semester!

I enjoyed reading "Into the Wild" several years ago...What I remember most (besides the tragic ending to his journey) was the list of vocabulary words that I'd never heard of before. I finally quit looking every new word up in the dictionary! I see that the movie is on a couple of the "Best of 2007" lists.

Thanks for the book recommendations. I've read a few of Chris Crutcher's books. They're so intense! I'm a little hesitant to recommend them to middle schoolers unless they're very mature readers. The pool and Arizona sound fantastic!
